Mythical Wanderings, showcases Mullen's ability to give a visual soul to some of Ireland's most intriguing myths.
OPENING RECEPTION
Thursday, June 23, 2005
7-10 p.m.
Orange Hill Art is pleased to be selected as the first gallery to show the latest works of self-taught artist Karl Mullen and host a reception on June 23, 2005, from 7pm-10pm, with the artist in attendance.
The exhibition, Mythical Wanderings will be on view from June 23 through July 21, 2005.
A Dublin native, with no formal art training, Mr. Mullen has developed his own techniques and methods. He uses vivid raw powder pigments, walnut oil and wax medium, which he applies with his hands to create
his intuitive, vibrant imagery.
"My art is not deliberate," Mullen says, "It just happens. It is instinctive, live, and magical. Sometimes my work reflects the exhilaration of being out of control and other times it reflects peaceful
resolution. It is the manifestation of an interior monologue that is very freeing."
Mullen's works on paper are based on themes of Dublin wanderings, Irish myths, folklore, cities, love and nature. The show will highlight new pieces not yet shown based on characters like Irish Kings, runaway
boys on horses, childhood trains, whiskey dreams and Irish villages; most of which were done over the last two years, and there will be limited pieces available for purchase.
