Orange Hill Art is pleased to present new work by Jamaican artists, Val Russell and Hubert Walters, which will showcase a collection of new work by both artists that best reflects each of their
unique eyes and amazing instincts for color and form.
Depicting daily chores, the fire and brimstone minister, or the neighborhood in which he lives, Russell paints life as it happens. And even with the great poverty that surrounds him, his art
reflects only beauty. Orange Hill is proud to be the first gallery that has been given permission by the emerging self-taught artist to show his work outside of Jamaica. The exhibit will
highlight pieces done over the last several months, since Russell's debut show at Orange Hill.
Born in 1931 in Jamaica, Walters first immigrated to New York in the early 1970s and now makes his home in rural Troutman, NC. Shortly after settling, Walters began building and painting small,
colorful boats made of wood and Bondo (body putty used in auto repairs) which reminded him of the fishing boats in his native Jamaica. The artist's repertoire has since expanded to include
life-size people, animals, and grandfather clocks, as well as city buildings, and more.
