Grace White was born in Cinncianti, Ohio, on May 9, 1935 and now resides in the desert of Yucca Valley, California. After a lifetime of working in fashion and interior design, she retired to the High Desert to live a full life and become a painter. She explains, "It's my turn now. I am determined to be an artist, to create my own vortex. I want to be a painter. I am a painter, but I want to fine-tune it, where I can make a stroke and feel confident about it. It's the overcoming of an inner limitation. We've got the ability; it's a matter of respecting it."
Her friends describe her as a free spirit who draws you into her life and is a friend to everyone. Constance Walsh first met Grace at a Yucca Valley Swap Meet and had to meet her when she saw her home with an interesting purple sculpture in the front yard. Her home is filled with unconventional objets d'art, which were gifts of artist friends and eclectic collections from over the years. Walsh writes in an article for the Sawtooth Mountain Views, "If anyone knows Grace - and everyone knows Grace - it's not because she's a movie star or "chairwoman of the bored." Grace White is a poet, an artist, a business whiz, an uncoiling kundalini, a free spirit, and an undying friend whose smile sheds its warmth on all who meet her. She is a woman many of us would like to be when we grow up: herself."
Grace White never married, but is very comfortable with herself and nurtures all of those who are lucky enough to come in contact with her. She attends Yoga and painting classes, exhibits her paintings, volunteers at the Boys and Girls Club and participates in the swap meet. Grace says, "We have to keep our lives extended. By making radical changes in our lives, we keep that extension. The moment we shut down, there is no hope. I like to network, meet great people, stay in tune."
